Deck overview

This deck is an Esper Sphinx kindred and reanimator strategy commanded by The Ur-Sphinx. From Turn 1, the commander provides a passive eminence cost reduction that lowers the casting cost of all Sphinx spells. The deck compounds this mana advantage with dedicated cost reducers such as Heartless Summoning, Urza's Incubator, and Watcher of the Spheres, deploying massive flying beaters ahead of curve. The central value engine is Unesh, Criosphinx Sovereign, which reduces Sphinx costs further while turning every Sphinx entry into a mini Fact or Fiction card-selection trigger. Once an aerial armada is assembled, the deck applies overwhelming combat pressure using bombs like Magister Sphinx, Sphinx of the Second Sun, and Sphinx of Clear Skies, or recurs entire graveyards through Rise of the Dark Realms and Bloodline Bidding. Interaction consists of flexible counterspells and modal removal, backed by asymmetric hate from Leyline of the Void and Portal to Phyrexia.
