Deck overview

This deck is a Simic Merfolk tribal strategy led by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. It leverages continuous explore triggers at the beginning of combat to simultaneously enlarge its creatures with +1/+1 counters, filter the top of the library, and accelerate land drops into play. The early game focuses on deploying low-cost Merfolk such as Deeproot Elite, Benthic Biomancer, and mana ramp. Once Hakbal lands on Turn 4, the board expands rapidly in size and velocity. The deck closes games through overwhelming combat damage, using evasion granters like Herald of Secret Streams, Master of the Pearl Trident, and Mist Dancer to make large Merfolk unblockable. While highly resilient against targeted removal due to ward and mass draw, the strategy relies on maintaining a critical mass of creatures on the battlefield and must rebuild quickly if an opponent resolves an untaxed board wipe.
