Deck overview

This Abzan deck centers on Nethroi, Apex of Death to execute explosive mass reanimation through the mutate mechanic. The strategy accelerates in the opening turns using efficient mana dorks like Birds of Paradise and Skull Prophet, while simultaneously stocking the graveyard using dredge cards like Golgari Grave-Troll and tutors such as Buried Alive. On Turn 5, the deck mutates Nethroi onto a cheap non-Human creature, triggering its ability to return up to 10 total power of creatures from the graveyard. Because powerful permanents such as The Walls of Ba Sing Se, Bedrock Tortoise, Phantom Nishoba, and Golgari Grave-Troll have 0 printed power in the graveyard, Nethroi returns an entire lethal army in a single trigger alongside Gray Merchant of Asphodel. On Turn 6, Bedrock Tortoise allows The Walls of Ba Sing Se to attack for 30 damage alongside massive tramplers, closing the game in one rotation.
