Deck overview

This deck is a Gruul Stompy and Punisher strategy commanded by Ruric Thar, the Unbowed. It leverages a dense suite of 1-2 CMC mana dorks and land ramp to consistently deploy Ruric Thar on Turn 4. Once on the battlefield, Ruric Thar heavily punishes noncreature spells by dealing 6 damage to their caster, severely hindering opposing spell-based interaction, cantrips, combo setups, and board sweepers. The deck breaks parity through an almost all-permanent construction featuring over 40 creatures. On Turns 5 through 7, it transitions into overwhelming combat pressure with massive beaters like Ghalta, Primal Hunger, End-Raze Forerunners, Ilharg, the Raze-Boar, and Borborygmos Enraged. Supported by passive tax effects from Harsh Mentor, Scytheclaw Raptor, and Manglehorn, the deck forces opponents to deplete their life totals rapidly if they attempt to interact, closing the game through relentless trample combat.
