Deck overview

This Abzan deck is commanded by Betor, Ancestor's Voice, focusing on lifegain synergy, +1/+1 counters, and incremental creature reanimation. The deck leverages early lifegain enablers like Nyx-Fleece Ram and Ajani's Pridemate to generate tempo, while using life-payment effects from pain lands, Phyrexian Arena, and Snuff Out to fuel Betor's reanimation trigger. Midgame turns scale board power rapidly through end-step counter placement and life-doubling effects such as Rhox Faithmender and The Wind Crystal. The deck applies lethal combat pressure through massive flying and lifelink threats or closes games using drain outlets like Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, Sanguine Bond, and Exsanguinate. A robust reactive suite of low-cost removal and instant-speed protection spells like Heroic Intervention and Flawless Maneuver preserves the board state against opposing sweepers and single-target disruption.
