Explorers of the Deep (The Lost Caverns of Ixalan Commander Precon Decklist) by TheAceWheelie

Format: Commander

Commander: Hakbal of the Surging Soul

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

Hakbal of the Surging Soul leads a Simic Merfolk engine that converts exploration into land drops, card draw, and +1/+1 counters. The primary plan builds a wide, counter-heavy Merfolk board, doubles the counter payoff with Branching Evolution and Hardened Scales, and closes through Herald of Secret Streams unblockability, islandwalk, or mass flying from Mist Dancer. Secondary paths are Simic Ascendancy's growth-counter alt-win and a slower go-wide beatdown using Kumena, Emperor Mihail II, and Deeproot Waters. Hakbal is the central explorer: his attack trigger accelerates lands while his combat trigger grows every Merfolk. The commander is single-faced; there is no true hidden commander, though Kumena acts as a backup engine. Overall this is a midrange tribal snowball, not a combo deck.
