Deck overview

This deck is an Abzan toughness-matters aggro-midrange deck commanded by Doran, Besieged by Time. The strategy establishes a sturdy defensive foundation in the early turns with low-cost, high-toughness creatures and defenders that double as ramp and card draw. Once Doran enters the battlefield, it reduces the casting cost of creature spells and triggers massive power buffs whenever creatures attack or block, converting cheap defensive walls into lethal combat threats. The deck capitalizes on asymmetric board wipes like Slaughter the Strong and Wave of Reckoning that devastate opponents while leaving its own low-power board intact. It closes games through wide combat pushes amplified by overrun effects such as Akroma's Will, Tower Defense, and Baldin, Century Herdmaster. The list boasts exceptional redundancy for its core mechanics, allowing it to maintain combat pressure even if the commander is removed, though it remains vulnerable to mass exile sweepers and lacks stack-based countermagic.
