Deck overview

This deck is a classic Azorius stax and taxation strategy commanded by Grand Arbiter Augustin IV. Its game plan revolves around generating an asymmetric mana advantage: discounting its own white and blue spells while imposing an escalating tax on every opponent. Backed by cheap mana rocks and medallions, the deck accelerates into the commander by Turn 3 or 4, quickly layering additional stax pieces like Sphere of Resistance, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Lodestone Golem, and tap effects such as Kismet and Frozen Aether. Opponents find their spells priced out of reach and their lands entering tapped, grinding the table's tempo to a halt. While the deck excels at establishing oppressive board states and defending against targeted removal through Kira, Great Glass-Spinner and Unsettled Mariner, its primary limitation is the lack of a fast win condition or tutoring. Victory relies on prolonged combat beats via Hullbreaker Horror and Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines.
