Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black aristocrats attrition build helmed by Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker. The strategy revolves around deploying low-cost creatures with power 1 or less that possess impactful enters-the-battlefield or death triggers. When paired with a free sacrifice outlet, Shirei returns these creatures to play at the beginning of each player's end step, effectively multiplying their effects by four across every table rotation. Through repeated discard from cards like Burglar Rat and Elderfang Disciple, creature removal via Abyssal Gatekeeper, and nonblack mana suppression with Contamination, the deck rapidly strips opponents of options. Victory is secured through persistent life-drain triggers from Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, and Bastion of Remembrance, or through burst finishers like Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Bolas's Citadel.
