Deck overview

This mono-black deck helmed by Sheoldred, the Apocalypse is a midrange drain-and-reanimator strategy that punishes opponents for drawing cards while leveraging a deep graveyard recursion suite. The primary game plan is to deploy Sheoldred early, then use symmetrical draw effects like Scrawling Crawler and Caress of Phyrexia to accelerate the life total swing. Simultaneously, the deck stockpiles the graveyard via Buried Alive and mass-mill such as Breach the Multiverse, then reanimates threats like Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Syr Konrad, the Grim for massive drain triggers. Poison counters offer an alternate path through Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon and Vraska, Betrayal's Sting. The deck wins through incremental life loss, a single resolved Exsanguinate or Gray Merchant, or a critical mass of death-trigger drain from Blood Artist and Bastion of Remembrance. It lacks fast combos but grinds value through attrition and recursion.
