SMAUG by Lucero

Format: Commander

Commander: Smaug the Impenetrable

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This is a Rakdos Dragon/Treasure deck helmed by Smaug the Impenetrable, an 8/7 indestructible haste Dragon that creates Treasures whenever it takes noncombat damage. The core plan is to weaponize that trigger: suit Smaug up with Fiendlash or Blazing Sunsteel, then hit it with Pestilence, Self-Destruct, or Cut Propulsion to generate a flood of Treasures while reflecting massive damage at opponents. The deck is built on an enormous treasure-ramp package - Goldspan Dragon, Magda, Brazen Outlaw, Academy Manufactor, Black Market Connections - that accelerates the expensive commander and fuels alternate wins in Exsanguinate, Hellkite Tyrant's 20-artifact alternate condition, and Desert Were-Worm extra combats. It is a grindy, value-dense midrange deck that wins through damage reflection loops and overwhelming artifact mana.
