Deck overview

This Kess, Dissident Mage deck operates as an interactive Grixis spellslinger combo list designed to control early game development before pivoting into compact, instant-speed win lines. The primary game plan centers on resolving Thassa's Oracle in tandem with Demonic Consultation on Turn 4, directly ending the game with zero opponent response cycles. As a resilient backup, the list leverages an infinite copy combo using Dualcaster Mage alongside copy sorceries like Twinflame and Heat Shimmer to attack with infinite hasty tokens. The mana base is supported by dense two-mana ramp, while the interaction suite runs versatile counterspells like Force of Will and removal like Pongify and Toxic Deluge. Kess, Dissident Mage acts as a premier engine piece from the command zone, breaking parity on one-shot cantrips, tutors, and answers by allowing them to be recast from the graveyard for sustained card advantage and rapid recovery.
