Deck overview

This Abzan deck centers on Kathril, Aspect Warper as a modular Voltron commander powered by a keyword-dense graveyard. In the early turns, self-mill spells and direct graveyard tutors like Buried Alive and Entomb deposit multi-keyword creatures—such as Zetalpa, Primal Dawn and Sire of Seven Deaths—into the graveyard. On Turn 5, Kathril enters as a massive, evasive, double-striking threat protected by hexproof and indestructible counters. The deck finishes games through sequential commander-damage eliminations over three combat steps. A unique retro Banding package featuring Benalish Hero, Mesa Pegasus, and Icatian Skirmishers allows fine-grained combat damage assignment, deflecting lethal attacks onto indestructible creatures. Extensive phasing and blink protection like Clever Concealment and Guardian of Faith shield the board against sweepers, while alternate keyword engines like Bleeding Effect and Odric, Lunarch Marshal provide reliable backup routes if the commander is removed.
