Deck overview

This mono-black deck is helmed by Liliana, Heretical Healer and operates as a dedicated pox, discard, and reanimator control engine. The game plan focuses on deploying early mana rocks and cost reducers to cast Liliana on Turn 3, transforming her on Turn 4 via sacrifice outlets like Accursed Marauder or Bloodghast. Once transformed, Liliana, Defiant Necromancer pairs with oppressive continuous discard enchantments such as Oppression, Bottomless Pit, and Painful Quandary to strip opponents of their hands. The deck breaks parity using self-recurring creatures, graveyard reanimation spells, and card engines like Waste Not and Braids, Arisen Nightmare. Opponents are gradually locked out of resources and drained out of the game through repeated loops of Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Massacre Wurm, and large Exsanguinate casts. While resilient to creature-based combat and board stalls, the deck is vulnerable to targeted graveyard hate and lacks direct stack interaction.
