Deck overview

This deck is a Dimir control strategy that turns opponents' best resources into its primary win condition. Led by Garland, Royal Kidnapper, the deck introduces the monarch mechanic to systematically steal key opposing creatures while granting them a +2/+2 stat increase and sacrifice immunity. The deck breaks parity on symmetric edict effects like Fleshbag Marauder and Plaguecrafter, as stolen creatures cannot be sacrificed, stripping opposing boards while keeping your own intact. Repeatable blink engines such as Thassa, Deep-Dwelling, Conjurer's Closet, and Displacer Kitten repeatedly trigger Garland to steal additional threats whenever the monarch changes. The deck protects its advantage with efficient countermagic and interaction before closing out the game with unblockable attacks enabled by Keeper of Keys or clone armies created by Irenicus's Vile Duplication.
