Deck overview

This is a creature-heavy Gruul counters deck led by Halana and Alena, Partners. It develops mana creatures and efficient counter payoffs, then turns one creature into a large hasty attacker every combat. Champion of Lambholt is the most important combat enabler because its counters reduce or remove blocking. Kalonian Hydra, Arwen, Weaver of Hope, Loyal Guardian, The Great Henge, and Tribute to the World Tree compound the counter and card-flow plan. The deck has a good collection of fight spells and permanent removal, but little stack interaction, tutoring, or protection against sweepers. Its ordinary plan assembles around turn 5, becomes a serious must-answer board around turn 7, and usually needs several further combats to defeat all three opponents. The list is strongest in creature-heavy games where combat remains viable and weaker against repeated removal, fast combo, or decks that invalidate combat.
