Deck overview

This deck executes an attrition-heavy Golgari strategy centered on The Serpent Society. In the opening turns, it curves low-cost deathtouch creatures like Gilacorn and Noxious Newt into the commander. Opponents face severe deterrence when attacking or blocking, as any creature trade triggers an asymmetric edict that forces each opponent to sacrifice a nontoken creature, while targeting the commander imposes a dangerous 5 poison counters. In the mid-to-late game, the deck pivots into lifegain and drain engines powered by Dina, Soul Steeper, Arnyn, Deathbloom Botanist, and South Wind Avatar, or deploys game-ending threats like Plague of Vermin and The Coming of Galactus. While effective at grinding down creature-based boards, the deck relies heavily on combat damage and incremental life loss, making it vulnerable to combo decks and sweepers that bypass its Ward protection.
