Deck overview

This deck is an Azorius Stax and Tax Control strategy commanded by Grand Arbiter Augustin IV. It aims to slow the game to a crawl by imposing heavy mana taxes, untap restrictions, and casting limits on opponents while breaking parity with Arbiter's cost reductions. Early turns focus on establishing mana acceleration through signets and medallions, followed by deploying Grand Arbiter to discount subsequent control spells. Once the commander is established, the deck layers oppressive stax pieces such as Winter Orb, Static Orb, Rule of Law, and Archon of Emeria. Opponents face extreme friction when trying to develop their boards or cast removal. Meanwhile, the deck generates passive card advantage through Rhystic Study and Esper Sentinel. Victory is achieved by creating an overwhelming aerial army with Luminarch Ascension, generating large Construct tokens with Urza's Saga, or attacking with evasive hatebears while opponents are locked out of meaningful game actions.
