Deck overview

This deck is a Rakdos group slug and burn attrition engine helmed by Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls. The primary game plan deploys low-cost passive damage sources on early turns, such as Roiling Vortex, Razorkin Needlehead, and Underworld Dreams. When Valgavoth enters on turn 4, every opponent turn triggers guaranteed life loss, growing Valgavoth into a lethal flying threat while drawing up to three extra cards per turn cycle. This rapid card flow fuels continuous deployment of heavy punisher permanents like Painful Quandary, Kaervek the Merciless, and Rug of Smothering, which heavily tax opposing spells and activations. The deck steadily grinds down life totals through symmetric and asymmetric burn while Valgavoth applies heavy evasive combat pressure. Board wipes like Toxic Deluge and goad effects like Kardur, Doomscourge control combat tempo until finishers like Massacre Wurm, Syr Konrad, the Grim, or Rise of the Dark Realms close out the game around turn 8.
