Deck overview

This deck is a classic Azorius stax and control strategy led by Grand Arbiter Augustin IV. It aims to choke opposing resources by stacking symmetric and asymmetric taxes, mana restrictions, and pillowfort defenses. The commander accelerates your spells while adding a persistent {1} tax to everything opponents cast. The deck uses 38 basic lands to completely break parity on Back to Basics and relies on artifacts like Winter Orb and spells like Armageddon to cripple opposing mana bases. Opponents find themselves unable to develop their boards or pay required attack costs from cards like Ghostly Prison and Propaganda. Once the table is firmly locked down, the deck protects its turns with Grand Abolisher and Teferi, Time Raveler while slowly beating down life totals with hatebears and formidable praetors like Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite and Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant.
