Deck overview

This deck is an aggressive Gruul combat engine commanded by Anzrag, the Quake-Mole. Its main strategy accelerates mana on Turn 1 to cast Anzrag by Turn 3, then uses equipment, damage prevention, and lure effects on Turn 4 to force unfavorable blocks. Whenever an opponent blocks Anzrag, its ability untaps your team and grants an extra combat phase. Combined with damage prevention tools like Dolmen Gate and Mithril Coat, Anzrag can repeatedly attack, clear blockers, and trigger attack-based mana engines like Savage Ventmaw and Bear Umbra. If opponents decline to block, Anzrag's massive 8 base power quickly threatens lethal commander damage, amplified by doublers like Xenagos, God of Revels and Unnatural Growth. If Anzrag is removed, the deck transitions smoothly into a traditional stompy plan with huge beaters like Ghalta, Primal Hunger and Etali, Primal Storm.
