Deck overview

Arcades, the Strategist commands a high-velocity aggro-control deck centered on low-cost defender creatures. Arcades turns defensive walls with negligible mana costs and massive toughness into efficient cantripping beaters that strike with toughness. The deck establishes early ramp and board presence with mana dorks like Overgrown Battlement and Axebane Guardian, drops Arcades on Turn 4, and rapidly chains walls like Shield Sphere, Wall of Omens, and The Pride of Hull Clade to draw through the library. Combat lethality is achieved by Turn 5-6 using unblockable evasion from Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive, overrun damage from Craterhoof Behemoth, or lethal double strike via Akroma's Will. Asymmetrical sweepers like Slaughter the Strong, Dusk // Dawn, and Wave of Reckoning decimate opposing boards while leaving 0-power defenders untouched. A premier suite of free and efficient protection—including Fierce Guardianship, Force of Will, Flawless Maneuver, and Teferi's Protection—ensures Arcades and the defender armada survive removal to close the game decisively.
