Deck overview

This deck is an Orzhov Aristocrats and Lifegain Drain engine helmed by Athreos, God of Passage. The strategy leverages low-curve lifegain enablers such as Soul Warden and Elas il-Kor, Sadistic Pilgrim alongside passive drainers like Blood Artist and Cruel Celebrant to steadily erode opposing life totals while building a substantial life buffer. Athreos, God of Passage acts as an indestructible value engine, forcing opponents into difficult choices between taking repeated 3-life penalties or letting key utility creatures return directly to your hand. The primary win condition centers on pairing Exquisite Blood with any gain-triggered drain effect—most notably Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose or Sanguine Bond—to execute an instantaneous, infinite drain loop that wipes out all opponents simultaneously. Secondary win lines utilize Aetherflux Reservoir, massive Debt to the Deathless casts powered by Crypt Ghast, or sustained attrition backed by Teysa Karlov. While light on instant-speed stack interaction, the deck excels at steady, resilient board control.
