Deck overview

Sergeant John Benton pilots a high-velocity Selesnya Voltron strategy that turns aggressive combat damage into overwhelming card draw. The game plan centers on deploying Benton on Turn 2 via dense 1-drop acceleration, leveraging his native haste and trample to attack immediately. When Benton connects, his ability draws cards equal to the damage dealt, refilling the hand with low-cost pump spells, land enablers, and efficient protection. On Turn 3, stacking pump spells like Invigorate, Groundswell, and Scent of Ivy threatens lethal commander damage against the first opponent while drawing a massive grip of 10 or more cards. The deck then uses 1-mana protective instants such as Tamiyo's Safekeeping and Blacksmith's Skill to shield Benton from removal while eliminating the remaining opponents over subsequent turns. Although giving opponents cards on hit and relying strictly on commander damage are inherent vulnerabilities, the deck's explosive velocity, dense redundancy, and tight mana curve create a potent clock.
