DeckCheck Threat Index: 26

Deck overview

This deck is an Izzet spellslinger strategy that leverages Melek, Reforged Researcher as both a high-velocity cost reducer and a scaling lethal threat. The game plan focuses on spending the early turns accelerating mana with low-cost rocks and sculpting the hand and graveyard through efficient looting spells like Faithless Looting and Frantic Search. Once Melek enters on Turn 5, every instant or sorcery cast on each turn benefits from a substantial {3} discount. With a graveyard packed with spells, Melek balloons into a massive creature capable of wiping the table and chunking life totals with Chandra's Ignition, or eliminating players via commander damage paired with Gravitic Punch and evasion equipment. A robust suite of counterspells and redirection spells keeps opponents off balance and protects Melek during pivotal setup turns.
