Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black stax and attrition strategy piloted by Tergrid, God of Fright // Tergrid's Lantern. The primary plan aims to cast Tergrid on Turn 4 or 5 and immediately trigger an edict or discard spell. Tergrid steals every nontoken permanent that opponents discard or sacrifice, converting symmetric resource denial into an overwhelming asymmetric board state. Cards like Dark Deal, Pox Plague, Fleshbag Marauder, and Braids, Cabal Minion strip opposing hands and wipe opposing battlefields, starving opponents of resources while stocking your own army. Opponents are eliminated over the subsequent three turn cycles through combat with their own stolen creatures, supplemented by passive burn from Liliana's Caress and Megrim. While the engine is devastating against creature decks, it remains vulnerable to targeted removal pointed at Tergrid and lacks interaction against non-creature combos.
