Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black Voltron and burn strategy led by Whiplash, Vengeful Engineer. The primary plan leverages Whiplash's extremely low mana cost to hit the battlefield on Turn 1, followed by a dense suite of 18 Equipment spells. Every combat step, Whiplash deals single-target combat damage and drains life from every opponent equal to the number of attached Equipment. High-synergy pieces like Hammer of Nazahn, Tarrian's Soulcleaver, and Swordsman, Sharp Scoundrel accelerate Equipment attachment and magnify power. While the deck lacks nonland tutors, its high artifact density ensures consistent access to weapon attachments. Strong instant-speed black removal and targeted protection spells like Swiftfoot Boots and Masterful Flourish shield the commander during combat rotations. The deck finishes games by eliminating the most threatening player with commander damage while simultaneously draining out the remaining opponents around Turn 9.
