Deck overview

This is a Gruul creature deck centered on the partner commanders Alena, Kessig Trapper and Gilanra, Caller of Wirewood. The plan is to make land drops, cast Gilanra, Caller of Wirewood, follow with Alena, Kessig Trapper, and use large creatures to draw cards and create extra red mana. The list contains strong individual payoffs such as Dragonlord Atarka, Etali, Primal Storm, Drakuseth, Maw of Flames, and Tyrant of Discord. Cascade, discover, monarch effects, and combat triggers add value once the deck reaches six or more mana. Its main problems are speed, access, and interaction. It has very little cheap ramp, few tutors, no reliable combo finish, and limited answers to opposing instant-speed plans. It can overwhelm casual tables when its large creatures survive, but it normally needs several turns of combat and does not establish a dependable full-table kill.
