Alena & Gilanra by eblake0823

Format: Commander

Commander: Gilanra, Caller of Wirewood and Alena, Kessig Trapper

Bracket: 1

Deck overview

This Gruul "big mana" deck is helmed by the partner pair Gilanra, Caller of Wirewood and Alena, Kessig Trapper, built around a simple but explosive engine: cast Gilanra early for ramp and card draw, then deploy Alena to generate burst red mana equal to the greatest power among creatures that entered that turn. The 99 is packed with 6-mana, 6+ power creatures - trampling dinosaurs, elementals, and giants - that the engine chains together: cast one, draw a card off Gilanra, tap Alena for 6+ mana, cast another. The primary win condition is overwhelming combat damage from a rapidly growing board of huge tramplers, accelerated by value engines like Etali, Primal Storm, Doors of Durin, and Monstrous Vortex that chain free spells and extra bodies. Secondary payoffs include Ruric Thar, the Unbowed's noncreature-spell punishment and Inferno Titan's repeatable burn.
