Deck overview

This deck is a Grixis Spellslinger Midrange strategy piloted by Sauron, the Dark Lord. It accelerates into its 6-mana commander by Turn 4 through an abundant suite of 2-CMC mana rocks and cost-reducers. Once Sauron enters the battlefield, any spell cast by an opponent builds an Orc Army token. The deck leverages Ring Temptation mechanics and unblockable enablers like The Black Gate and Artful Dodge to connect in combat, repeatedly triggering Sauron's ability to discard depleted hands and draw four fresh cards. This massive card velocity fuels explosive burn and fling finishers, including Chandra's Ignition, Gravitic Punch, and Soul's Fire, which can be doubled with Galvanic Iteration or cast from the graveyard via Kess, Dissident Mage. While the deck features strong resilience through Sauron's punishing ward cost, it relies on surviving several combat rotations to close the game, making smart pacing and timely countermagic essential.
