Deck overview

This deck is an Orzhov lifegain and drain midrange deck commanded by Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel. Its primary strategy revolves around establishing early lifegain enablers—such as soul sisters and extort creatures—and deploying its commander to convert every instance of lifegain into massive card draw by paying life. With a refilled hand, the deck snowballs card advantage, deploys redundant drain amplifiers like Starscape Cleric and Marauding Blight-Priest, and finishes the table through scaling life loss from Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Debt to the Deathless, and Vizkopa Guildmage activations. The mana base and acceleration rely on traditional two- and three-mana artifacts, leading to a stable Turn 6 engine assembly. While the deck boasts high internal redundancy and impressive recovery through secondary value engines, its high commander mana cost and sparse defensive suite make it susceptible to well-timed spot removal and aggressive fast-combo strategies.
