Deck overview

This deck is a specialized mono-blue combo-control shell built around Eluge, the Shoreless Sea and twenty copies of Sphinx's Approach. Eluge distributes flood counters upon entering and attacking, turning lands into Islands and reducing the cost of the first instant or sorcery cast each turn by up to three mana. This reduction enables rapid, low-cost cycling of Sphinx's Approach, which draws cards and eventually exiles itself alongside four graveyard copies to tutor high-impact Sphinxes directly onto the battlefield. Engines like Unesh, Criosphinx Sovereign, Sphinx of the Chimes, and Consecrated Sphinx leverage this density to dig deep into the library. The deck protects its setup using premium countermagic discounted by Eluge on opponents' turns. Once the deck churns through its remaining cards, it secures victory through Laboratory Maniac or Jace, Wielder of Mysteries.
