Deck overview

Rowan, Scion of War is a black-red spellslinger deck that treats its own life total as a resource. The primary plan is to lose life through pain lands, draw spells, and Darkstar Augur, then activate Rowan to make black/red spells nearly free. A resolved Peer into the Abyss typically draws half the library and adds enough life loss to cast a huge Exsanguinate, with Mana Geyser and rituals covering the residual cost. Secondary plans use Return the Past, Mizzix's Mastery, Electro, and Storm-Kiln Artist to chain instants and sorceries into a storm kill via Grapeshot or burn from Guttersnipe. No card functions as a hidden commander; Rowan is the central accelerator, though several independent spell-matters engines keep the deck functional if she is removed.
