Smaug, the Impenetrable by Pumpcover

Format: Commander

Commander: Smaug the Impenetrable

Bracket: 4

Deck overview

Helmed by Smaug the Impenetrable, this is a Rakdos Treasures deck that turns noncombat damage into a table-killing mana engine. Smaug's indestructible 8/7 body is both the engine and the shield: the deck pings him with Pestilence, Pyrohemia, Cut Propulsion, Blasphemous Act, or even Gut Shot, and every point of damage becomes a Treasure. The primary kill is a repeatable damage loop with Pestilence or Pyrohemia, accelerated by Xorn and Roaming Throne and protected from symmetric fallout by Mirkwood Bats, Twinflame Tyrant, Pariah's Shield, and Academy Manufactor. Backup plans include giant X-spells like Torment of Hailfire and Crackle with Power, upkeep wins from Revel in Riches, Hellkite Tyrant, and Knuckles the Echidna, plus a steady burn layer from Reckless Fireweaver, Ingenious Artillerist, and Mayhem Devil. The deck wants to ramp to Smaug quickly, set up a damage source, and convert Treasures into overwhelming advantage.
