Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black landfall and drain midrange strategy commanded by Ob Nixilis, the Fallen. Rather than relying on green ramp staples, it utilizes mono-black land-searching artifacts and equipment such as Sword of the Animist, Bitterthorn, Nissa's Animus, and Burnished Hart to secure steady land drops. Once deployed on Turn 5, Ob Nixilis quickly grows into a lethal combat threat while burning opponents for 3 life per land. The deck complements this plan with heavy life-drain synergies, including Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, Sanguine Bond, and Wound Reflection. A dense suite of mono-black spot removal and sweepers controls opposing creatures, while tax cards like Painful Quandary and Polluted Bonds punish standard opponent actions. The deck closes games around Turn 8 through a combination of commander combat damage and massive group life loss.
