Format: Commander

Commander: Smaug the Impenetrable

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This is a Rakdos treasure-dragon combo deck built to weaponize the commander's indestructibility. Smaug the Impenetrable is a hasty 8/7 that converts every point of noncombat damage into a Treasure token, so the deck packs a dense ritual package to turbo him out and then uses repeatable red pings to turn him into a self-sustaining artifact engine. The primary kill is a damage loop involving Pyrohemia plus a damage amplifier such as Pain for All, Wrathful Red Dragon, or Fated Firepower. Backup plans include Goldspan Dragon-fueled positive-mana loops into Fireball, the artifact-count alternate wins of Hellkite Tyrant and Knuckles the Echidna, and a combat route powered by Desert Were-Worm extra combats. The deck is explosive but narrow: it needs its commander and its key enchantment to execute the fastest line.
