Commander: Maarika, Brutal Gladiator

Bracket: 2

Deck overview

This Jund list is a combat-voltron build around Maarika, Brutal Gladiator, a commander who must be blocked and is indestructible on her own turn. The plan is to ramp into Maarika, suit her with one of the deck's 20+ equipment pieces and power auras, and turn every attack into a board-clearing, permanent-stripping swing: fight spells like Ulvenwald Tracker and Contest of Claws create excess damage on blockers, forcing opponents to sacrifice noncreature, nonland permanents. Damage-redirect pieces (Blazing Sunsteel, Fiendlash, Pain for All) punish any blocker that hits her indestructible body. The primary kill is 21 commander damage, accelerated by Genji Glove/Grappling Hook double strikes and extra combats, Xenagos, God of Revels power doubling, and Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar's table-wide damage. Chandra's Ignition and Mage Slayer add noncombat reach. Toxic Deluge offers a board wipe that can be tuned around Maarika's toughness.
