Deck overview

This Dimir control deck leverages Vren, the Relentless to convert symmetrical edict effects and spot removal into an asymmetric board-locking advantage and an exponentially scaling army of Rat tokens. By utilizing low-cost sacrifice creatures such as Accursed Marauder, Fleshbag Marauder, and Plaguecrafter, the deck consistently clears opposing boards while triggering Vren's end-step ability to spawn Relentless Rat tokens that mutually buff each other. Vren's static ability provides built-in graveyard hate by exiling dying enemy creatures, severely impairing aristocrat, reanimator, and on-death strategies. Cheap reactive countermagic and one-mana hexproof protection spells like Shore Up and Mizzium Skin safeguard Vren from targeted removal, allowing the commander to survive through its multi-turn combat clock. While the deck lacks fast combo finishes, its suffocating creature suppression and steady card flow enable it to overwhelm opponents through lethal combat damage by Turn 8.
