Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black aristocrats and reanimation strategy led by Ashnod, Flesh Mechanist. Ashnod converts early attacks and disposable creatures into tapped Powerstone tokens. These Powerstones bypass black mana constraints by fueling activated abilities on recursive creatures like Reassembling Skeleton and Forsaken Miner, while powering heavy artifacts such as Basalt Monolith, Trading Post, and Mystic Forge. The primary win condition revolves around establishing devotion and repeatedly looping Gray Merchant of Asphodel through reanimation spells like Victimize, Animate Dead, and Lich-Knights' Conquest, supplemented by aristocrat drain from Marionette Apprentice and Zulaport Cutthroat. The deck features robust interaction with cheap removal, board wipes, and asymmetric graveyard hate via Dauthi Voidwalker and The Darkness Crystal. While vulnerable to mass exile and countermagic, the high density of self-recurring threats and redundant sacrifice outlets provides excellent recovery and steady midgame inevitability.
