Deck overview

This mono-black typal deck is led by Karumonix, the Rat King, which unites a dense swarm of low-mana Rats with the deadly pressure of toxic and poison counters. The core game plan focuses on establishing early board presence with inexpensive creatures like Changeling Outcast and Blightbelly Rat, then casting Karumonix on curve to refill the hand and bestow toxic 1 across the entire board. Midgame turns leverage evasion enablers like Cover of Darkness and Piper of the Swarm alongside proliferate spells such as Drown in Ichor and Contagion Clasp to rapidly advance opponents toward ten poison counters. While highly synergistic and aggressive against open defenses, the deck's reliance on vulnerable 1/1 and 2/2 bodies leaves it susceptible to creature board wipes, and mono-black's traditional inability to interact with problematic artifacts and enchantments presents a consistent strategic challenge.
