Deck overview

This deck is an Orzhov midrange lifegain and life-drain deck commanded by Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel. The primary strategy focuses on establishing early incidental lifegain enablers, developing mana on curve, and deploying powerful drain engines and scaling beaters. Once the commander or key card-draw engines are online, every point of lifegain converts directly into fresh cards, quickly refueling your hand while draining opposing life totals. The deck applies consistent pressure through taxing effects like Kambal, Consul of Allocation and Polluted Bonds before closing the game via large combat swings, Test of Endurance, or massive drain spikes from Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Exsanguinate. While the deck boasts exceptional card flow and strong functional redundancy, it lacks fast mana acceleration, nonland tutors, and dedicated instant-speed protective spells, making thoughtful sequencing and threat deployment essential against interaction-heavy pods.
