Deck overview

This deck is a high-synergy Simic Merfolk typal strategy commanded by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. The game plan focuses on deploying efficient low-cost Merfolk during the opening turns, casting Hakbal on Turn 3 or 4, and utilizing explore triggers to rapidly filter draws, build +1/+1 counter mass, and accelerate lands onto the battlefield. The deck transitions into a lethal threat on Turn 5 by combining wide board presence with typal lords like Lord of Atlantis and evasion enablers such as Herald of Secret Streams. An interactive suite featuring free countermagic, flexible removal, and sweep protection like Heroic Intervention and Ripples of Potential safeguards the board state against opposing interaction. While the strategy remains vulnerable to repeated board wipes and lacks infinite combo finishes, its compounding card flow, resilient phasing tech, and unblockable combat pressure provide consistent and robust mid-game inevitability.
