Deck overview

This Golgari deck leverages Grismold, the Dreadsower to convert symmetrical token generation into an asymmetrical combat threat and attrition engine. The deck ramps out Grismold early and pairs him with static debuffs such as Illness in the Ranks and Plague Engineer. These debuffs immediately kill the 1/1 Plant tokens created for each player on your end step. Every dying token triggers Grismold's ability, rapidly loading him with +1/+1 counters. With built-in trample, counter multipliers like Hardened Scales, and protection like Not of This World, Grismold eliminates opponents through lethal commander damage starting on turn 5. Meanwhile, Grave Pact, The Meathook Massacre, and Nemata, Primeval Warden drain opposing boards and restrict graveyard strategies, offering robust backup win conditions through Massacre Wurm and Revel in Riches.
