Deck overview

This is a Simic Merfolk tribal midrange deck helmed by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. The core plan floods the board with Merfolk, then leverages Hakbal's combat-step explore trigger to grow the team with +1/+1 counters while ramping extra lands or drawing. Lords, counter doublers, and evasion pieces turn that wide board into lethal combat damage, with Herald of Secret Streams making countered creatures unblockable. Simic Ascendancy offers an alternate non-combat win once growth counters snowball. The deck plays as classic tribal value: develop early Merfolk, cast Hakbal, explore every combat, and overwhelm through lords and card advantage from Kindred Discovery, Seafloor Oracle, and attack triggers. It has no infinite combos and wins through combat inevitability or the Ascendancy clock.
