Deck overview

This is a Dimir theft-and-monarch deck helmed by Garland, Royal Kidnapper. The core loop is elegant: Garland makes an opponent the monarch, and whenever any opponent becomes the monarch, you steal a creature from them. The deck backs this with a massive redundancy of theft effects (Hostage Taker, Mind Flayer, Shield Broker, Subjugate the Hobbits, Volatile Stormdrake), goad pieces that force opponents' creatures into combat against each other (Coercive Impetus, Ghoulish Impetus, Sly Instigator), and a reanimation package that steals from graveyards (Sepulchral Primordial, Shark Shredder, Killer Clone, Bringer of the Last Gift). Garland's static ability gives stolen creatures +2/+2 and makes them unsacrificable, turning theft into a combat clock. Wins come from overwhelming combat with boosted stolen creatures, a mass-reanimation turn, or The Cyber-Controller converting mills into a 2/2 army.
