Deck overview

Namor the Sub-Mariner leads a mono-blue Merfolk tempo deck that merges spell-slinging with tribal combat. Namor converts every noncreature spell with blue mana symbols into 1/1 Merfolk tokens while scaling his own flying power with the size of your school. The deck leverages an extensive suite of low-cost counterspells—such as Counterspell, Mana Drain, and Archmage's Charm—to disrupt opponents while simultaneously generating a wide board state on their turns. Once a swarm of Merfolk is established, tribal lords like Lord of Atlantis, Master of the Pearl Trident, and Vodalian Hexcatcher amplify power and grant unblockable islandwalk, while combat card draw engines like Bident of Thassa, Coastal Piracy, and Kindred Discovery keep your hand full of countermagic. Although vulnerable to resolved mass sweepers and lacking hard noncreature permanent removal, the deck excels at dictating game tempo, protecting its board with on-demand interaction, and closing games through overwhelming evasive combat damage.
