Format: Commander

Commander: Y'shtola, Night's Blessed

Bracket: 4

Deck overview

Y'shtola, Night's Blessed helms an Esper value-control deck that weaponizes noncreature spells of mana value 3 or greater. Each such spell deals 2 damage to each opponent and gains you 2 life, while the commander also draws you a card at end step whenever an opponent lost 4 or more life that turn. The deck leans into life-loss payoffs, recursion, and incremental drain to grind out advantages, then closes with explosive win conditions such as Approach of the Second Sun, a massive Exsanguinate, or a hasty Blightsteel Colossus. A strong recursion package (Animate Dead, Moira and Teshar, Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher, Ravos, Soultender, Sheoldred, Whispering One) ensures key permanents return repeatedly, while control elements like Grand Abolisher and efficient removal protect your game plan. The deck's median win comes through assembling a critical mass of drain triggers and deploying a game-ending spell in the late midgame.
