Deck overview

This Orzhov deck is commanded by Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel, blending an aristocrats-style lifegain engine with devastating infinite drain combos and punishing stax-lite attrition. The strategy focuses on establishing cheap mana rocks and passive lifegain enablers in the early turns, bridging into high-impact threats like Sheoldred, the Apocalypse, Trouble in Pairs, and Polluted Bonds. Once Niv-Mizzet hits the board, it weaponizes your life total into massive card draw, rapidly cycling through the library to assemble game-ending two-card loops such as Exquisite Blood or Bloodthirsty Conqueror paired with Sanguine Bond, Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, or Enduring Tenacity. Even without the primary combo, the deck can pivot effortlessly into an aerial beatdown plan powered by Archangel of Thune, Righteous Valkyrie, and Akroma's Will. Strong protection spells like Flawless Maneuver and Rebuff the Wicked ensure your critical permanents stick, creating a resilient, lethal mid-game juggernaut.
