Deck overview

This is a classic Rakdos "group slug" deck commanded by Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls, aiming to turn every opponent action into a painful trigger while drawing cards and growing a flying commander. The primary strategy is to deploy a dense suite of punisher permanents-such as Spiteful Visions, Scrawling Crawler, Mayhem Devil, and Stormfist Crusader-that deal damage or cause life loss whenever opponents cast spells, draw cards, tap lands, or sacrifice permanents. Valgavoth acts as the payoff, gaining +1/+1 counters and drawing a card each time an opponent loses life. The deck has no infinite combos; it wins through attrition, incremental drain, and eventual combat with a massive Valgavoth. Board wipes like Blasphemous Act and Decree of Pain clear the path, while symmetric draw effects keep the pain coming. The plan is resilient in the sense that most punisher pieces are interchangeable, but the deck is vulnerable to fast combo and dedicated artifact/enchantment removal.
