Deck overview

This Abzan deck weaponizes life totals by balancing steady life gain with deliberate life loss to drive a compounding reanimation and drain engine. Led by Betor, Ancestor's Voice, the deck converts life gained into massive +1/+1 counters and uses life paid through pain lands, fetch lands, and cards like Black Market Connections to reanimate creatures every end step. Dense early drops like Soul Warden and Essence Warden supply reliable triggers while Blind Obedience and Authority of the Consuls slow opposing combat. The deck transitions into a lethal threat on Turn 5 as life drain engines like Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose, Marauding Blight-Priest, and Enduring Tenacity redirect lifelink swings into direct opponent damage. It closes games by Turn 7 through overwhelming combat pressure or an infinite drain loop with Exquisite Blood and Sanguine Bond. Backed by low-cost protection spells and modal spell-lands, the list maintains exceptional resilience and card flow across all phases.
